A not-half-shabby creek find from the Union--Webster County, Kentucky, creeks--a Pinetree (or Pinetree Cornernotched, if you prefer) measuring 2&1/2" by 1&7/16"--very slightly under 5/16" as the single thickest spot, with an extra thin blade on the top 1&1/2"--serrated, naturally. The basal edge shows decent grinding. The flint can be termed either a 'generic' Hornstone, or a Hopkinsville Chert--there is just enough color inclusion that I'd label the piece Hopkinsville as it's often hard to distinguish the two flints. One barb--the longer one--has a very slight ding at the end, the other is sharpened and salvaged as the blade went through sharpen-and-use cycles. When the blade was last sharpened the knapper ground the snapped barb--you'll feel how it was polished, see the gloss from that salvage work. Every detail is guaranteed authentic, period.
