The snap base hornstone Turkey Tail measures 3&13/16" in length, and looks even longer--caliper doesn't lie. Width is 1&5/8" across the shoulders, but it's the thinness that catches your interest, only 5/16" MAX thickness, with much of the blade in the 1/4" +/- range--the Late Archaic Turkey Tail started from a superbly thinned preform. Out of Gibson County, Indiana, along the Wabash River, superb hunting grounds back when deep plowing was the 'norm', collection-after-collection was built up by local hunters, but as collections go to estate sales, big points such as this one come available...you don't find this sort of length these days unless it's in a creekbed. So, was the stem snapped? NO--the blade was knapped to get every possible sixteenth inch of usable cutting surface for the knife; when the stem was formed some of the bevel--the "V" shaped base was formed, but then the knapper ran short of material, he finished-out the knife with a slightly auriculate basal edge. Was the flat stem ground, or is the slight polish from slight movement (wiggle) of the knife in its bindings--due to small movements as the knife was employed, that'd be my 'take'--the polish doesn't feel 'deliberate'. Note there is some field dirt still on the point--I've kept the piece as it came to me, that includes a bit of dirt (patina)--every collector decides for themselves how to display a point they're "entrusted". Damage is limited to a slight chip on one shoulder (barb), and that small upper-edge indention, be it a shaft scraper (bone awl scraper, I'd call it), or 'repair'--that one you'll have to decide for your self. Every detail is guaranteed real for MY lifetime--laugh if you will, but what I sell I guarantee. Shipping is $8.00. I take checks, cash, or money orders, but NO other payment forms (like paypal)--Roy A.
